Proof Beats Pitch

Ridhwik

A customer story is another buyer with this buyer's problem, what they did, and what happened. Told well it builds credibility in under a minute. Told badly it is a logo slide or a ramble. This goal teaches you to pick a story by situation, tell it as problem, action, result, stay inside what the customer permitted, and connect it back to this buyer's need. Includes reference calls, photos of ordinary jobs, and the buyer who has already read your bad review.

Your learning path

Skills you will learn

1

Matching Stories to Customer Constraints

The learner identifies a customer's specific operational constraints during discovery and matches them to an appropriate story from their portfolio. At the end of the session, they can articulate a match based on situational constraints rather than industry, and handle a scenario where no customer story fits. They will evaluate when to decline a forced comparison and transition smoothly back to discovery.

2

The Problem Action Result Story Structure

The learner drafts and delivers customer stories using the problem-action-result structure in under a minute. At the end of the session, they can write a concise story that survives being read cold by third-party buyers, and verbally deliver it under pressure while handling mid-story interruptions. They will produce a written business-case paragraph and practice managing skeptical buyer questions without restarting their narrative.

3

Evidence Permissions and Proactive Bad Review Disclosure

The learner manages the boundaries of customer confidentiality, evidence sourcing, and bad reviews. At the end of the session, they can proactively raise and address a negative online review, present unembellished photographs of ordinary work, and decline unauthorized reference calls. They will practice maintaining buyer trust through complete transparency and strong boundary setting.

4

Landing the Story with Comparison Questions

The learner connects a completed customer story back to the buyer's active sales conversation using landing questions and silence. At the end of the session, they can point out specific situational differences and ask a targeted comparison question that invites constructive disagreement. They will practice using strategic pauses to expose hidden implementation barriers.

5

Competitor Displacement and Sideways Reference Calls

The learner navigates high-stakes competitor displacement requests and sideways reference calls. At the end of the session, they can report why a customer switched from a competitor without issuing unhelpful verdicts, and de-escalate concerns when a buyer hears negative feedback from a live reference. They will practice briefing reference participants and protecting direct competitors' confidentiality.
